Finikounda is one of those places that was founded from "nothing". The idea of a tavern by the sea offering good wine and a few fine mezes was enough to make the beginning. A few decades later, we came to boast one of the most important tourist resorts of Messinia.
The village is built on the edge of a bay, just opposite the Oinoussa complex, made up of the islets Sapienza, Schiza and Agia Mariani. Today, Finikounta offers itself for quiet family holidays. In the village there is everything one might need in terms of supplies and services as it has large supermarkets, a pharmacy and shops.
Apart from the long beach next to the port, organized for the most part, the area is literally embroidered with beautiful beaches. The largest of them is Mavrovuni beach, a wonderful sandy beach where some of the largest campsites in the area are located. The beach has a huge area and is organized.
On the road from Finikounda to Methoni we come across two wonderful beaches. The first is the Phoenix Lamps. It is a busy beach, paved with sand and crystal clear waters. The second is Methoni Lamps which is paved with pebbles. It is a deserted beach, suitable for those who wish to enjoy their swim in peace.
Finikounda has several options for good food and relaxed drinks as well as a wide range of hotels, rooms for rent and villas that meet the needs of its vacationers. From Finikounda one can make interesting excursions to the surrounding areas of Koroni and Methoni and enjoy the beautiful beaches and the endless natural beauty.
