Epidavros
The cultural center of the Peloponnese.
Epidavros is famous all over the world and one of the most important archaeological sites in Greece.
It is known mainly for the Ancient Theater, which is one of the most well-preserved ancient theaters in the world. It dates back to the 4th century BC. and was used for dramatic performances and various cultural events. The archaeological site includes other important monuments such as the ancient temple of the theater, the sanctuary of the god Asklepios (the physician of the ancient Greeks), and many other archaeological monuments and buildings. The world-famous Ancient Theater of Epidaurus is located 14 kilometers outside of old Epidaurus, in the village now called Lygourio. In old Epidaurus there is another Theater, the so-called Small Theater of Epidaurus, which is also ancient (4th century BC). In both theaters of Epidaurus ancient performances and musical events are still held today, the most important of which are organized every summer during the Athens-Epidavros Festival. Watching an ancient drama in the Ancient Theater of Epidaurus is truly a unique experience worth experiencing if you get the chance. It is certain that you will be enchanted by the atmosphere and the unique acoustics of the space.

Built around a picturesque harbor, and next to the small green peninsula called Nissi, Palia Epidavros is a beautiful destination that offers numerous restaurants, cafes and accommodation for visitors.
Here, in the summers, the Agritourism Festival is also held, where local producers present the pure, fine products of the Argolic land to visitors. In Old Epidaurus there are still many organized campsites and wonderful beaches such as Kalamaki, with pine trees that literally reach the sea.
Other beaches in the area are Gialasi, Panagitsa and Nisi, in front of the Mikro Theatro.
Nea Epidauros is an equally picturesque settlement a few kilometers after Ancient Epidauros in the direction of Athens. Here, there is no ancient theater, but there is a beautiful beach and a gorge which is ideal for hiking. The settlement is built on the inner side of a steep rock, as a result of which it cannot be seen from the sea, although it’ everything that is almost next to her.
Nea Epidauros is also known from the history books as the place where A’ National Assembly of the revolutionary Greek state, in December 1821 – an assembly during which the appearance of the Greek flag was decided.
Today, Nea Epidavros is a calm and beautiful village, with picturesque narrow streets and beautiful views from its highest points.
